Spring colour palette: best colours for a Spring colour season
A Spring colour season looks best in warm, light and clear colours: coral, peach, warm ivory, golden yellow and fresh turquoise. Heavy, dusty or very cool shades tend to make the face look tired. Here is the whole Spring palette, what to wear it with, and how to tell the three Spring types apart.

Which colours suit a Spring?
Spring colours are warm, light to medium and clean: coral, peach, salmon, apricot, warm ivory, cream, golden yellow, apple green, warm turquoise, camel and light navy. The hardest colours near the face are black, cool charcoal, icy pastels, magenta and muddy, greyed shades. Spring splits into Light Spring, Warm Spring and Clear Spring, and which one you are shifts how light or how vivid your best version of each colour is.
Light Spring
The lightest and gentlest Spring: peach, warm ivory, mint and light turquoise. Its neighbour is Light Summer.
Warm Spring
The most golden Spring: coral, golden yellow, camel and warm turquoise. Its neighbour is Warm Autumn.
Clear Spring
The brightest Spring: coral red, clear turquoise, warm emerald and bright cobalt. Its neighbour is Clear Winter.
Three steps for a fair comparison
- 01
In daylight, hold warm ivory and then pure white under your chin. If ivory makes the skin look smoother, that points warm.
- 02
Compare light coral with terracotta. If the lighter coral lifts your face more, you are closer to Spring than to Autumn.
- 03
Try peach, golden yellow and clear turquoise one after another. The one that looks most natural hints at Light, Warm or Clear Spring.
The Spring colour palette
Every Spring colour has some warmth, enough lightness and no grey veil. Think of fresh flowers and new leaves rather than autumn woods.
- Pinks and reds: coral, peach, salmon, warm poppy red, coral pink.
- Yellows and oranges: butter yellow, golden yellow, apricot, light orange.
- Greens and blues: apple green, mint, warm turquoise, aqua, bright warm blue.
- Neutrals: warm ivory, cream, light camel, golden beige, light warm grey, light navy.
Colours that are harder for a Spring
Black, charcoal and dark brown worn right next to the face often look heavier than the person wearing them. Magenta, icy blue and blue-pink can make warm skin look sallow, and dusty, greyed shades flatten the natural brightness of a Spring.
None of these is forbidden. Wear them below the waist, on shoes or on bags, or put ivory, coral or a warm lip colour between the colour and your face.
Clothes, make-up and hair colour for a Spring
Swap black for camel or light navy, and pure white for ivory. Tops in coral, butter yellow or mint do the most work because they sit closest to the face. Lip and blush colours in coral, peach and warm pink suit Spring; very blue pinks and dark berries tend to sit on top of the skin.
Hair colours that stay warm and light work best: golden blonde, honey, strawberry blonde and light golden brown. Ashy tones and very dark, cool shades can drain a Spring complexion.
Clarity before your next purchase
Can a Spring wear black?
Yes. Keep it away from the face or break it with an ivory or coral layer, a warm lip colour or gold jewellery. Light navy and camel are softer alternatives for basics.
Is Spring the same as having a warm undertone?
Not quite. Spring is warm plus light and clear. A warm undertone with deeper or softer colouring usually points to Autumn instead.
How do I know which Spring type I am?
Compare the three Spring palettes against your face, or take a photo-based colour analysis in the app: it places you in one of the 12 colour seasons and gives you that palette for clothes, make-up and hair.
Do Springs suit silver or gold?
Gold, rose gold and brass usually look most natural. Bright polished silver can work for Clear Spring; matt grey metals are the hardest.
