What colour lipstick should I wear? Find your shade
A lipstick suits you when it looks like a stronger version of your own colouring: the same temperature as your skin, the right depth for your contrast and the right clarity. Start with your undertone, then compare a nude, a pink and a red.

Which lipstick colour suits me?
Warm undertones usually suit coral, peach, warm nude, brick and orange-red; cool undertones suit rose, berry, raspberry, plum and blue-red. Light, soft colouring looks best in sheer or medium shades, high-contrast colouring in clearer, deeper ones. A good everyday nude is one or two shades deeper than your natural lip colour, in your own temperature.
Spring and Autumn
Spring: coral, peach, warm pink and poppy red. Autumn: brick, terracotta, cinnamon and warm nude.
Summer
Rose, cool pink, raspberry and soft berry. Sheer and satin finishes look more natural than very bright ones.
Winter
True red, blue-red, fuchsia, berry and plum. Winter can carry clear, saturated shades.
Three steps for a fair comparison
- 01
Test on bare lips in daylight, next to a window, not under artificial light.
- 02
Compare a warm and a cool version of the same depth, for example coral and rose. The one that makes your teeth look whiter and your skin calmer is your temperature.
- 03
Take a photo of each shade from arm's length. Lipstick that suits you looks like part of the face; the wrong one is the first thing you see.
Lipstick shades by colour season
Your colour season narrows lip colours down further than undertone alone, because it also tells you how deep and how clear the shade can be.
- Spring: coral, peach, salmon, warm pink, poppy red.
- Summer: rose, cool pink, raspberry, mauve, soft berry.
- Autumn: brick, terracotta, cinnamon, warm nude, rust red.
- Winter: true red, blue-red, fuchsia, berry, plum.
Finish and intensity
Soft and light colouring usually looks best in sheer, satin or tinted balms; a matt, saturated shade can look heavy. Clear, high-contrast colouring can carry glossy or matt intense colours without looking overdone.
If a shade you love is outside your palette, wear a sheer version of it, or balance it with blush in your own temperature.
